Few things in Mobile Legends hurt more than the grey screen in the middle of a ranked match: "Network connection failed", then a spinning "Reconnecting..." while your team plays 4v5. The good news is that most cases have one of a handful of causes, and you can rule them out in a few minutes. This guide starts by working out whether the problem is on your side or Moonton's, then goes through 10 fixes from quickest to most involved.

First: Is It You or the Server?
Spend 30 seconds on this before changing any settings:
- Open another app that needs the internet, such as YouTube. If it doesn't load either, the problem is your connection, not MLBB.
- Ask a friend on a different network to try logging in. If they also can't connect, it's almost certainly the server.
- Check for maintenance. Moonton announces patches and maintenance on its official social pages, and the game often shows a notice at login. See our guide to checking if Mobile Legends is down.
If other apps work fine and nobody else is reporting problems, the issue is between your phone and the game server. That's where the fixes below help.
10 Fixes, in Order
- Toggle airplane mode for 10 seconds. This forces your phone to drop and rebuild its mobile connection, which clears a lot of stuck sessions.
- Switch between WiFi and mobile data. If one keeps failing, use the other for the match. A weak WiFi signal two rooms away is often worse than decent 4G.
- Run the in-game Network Test. Go to Settings › Network › Network Test. It shows your ping and packet loss and can reset the game's network state.
- Turn on Speed Mode. Same menu. It uses a little more data to send game traffic more reliably.
- Stop your phone switching networks mid-match. On Android, turn off Switch to mobile data / Adaptive connectivity in WiFi settings; on iPhone, turn off Wi-Fi Assist. Switching mid-match is a classic cause of "Reconnecting".
- Close background downloads. Play Store updates, cloud photo backup and video downloads compete with the game for bandwidth.
- Turn off battery saver for MLBB. Aggressive battery optimisation on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme phones can throttle the game's network activity. Set MLBB's battery setting to Unrestricted.
- Restart your router if you're on WiFi, and use the 5GHz network if you're close to it.
- Clear MLBB's cache (Settings › Apps › Mobile Legends › Storage › Clear cache). Don't tap "Clear data" unless your account is bound, or you may have to log in and re-download resources.
- Try a VPN server close to the game server. If your ISP's route to Moonton's servers is the problem (common during peak hours on some mobile networks), a nearby VPN server such as Singapore can route around it. Compare ping with and without it for a few matches. Our VPN for Mobile Legends guide explains when this helps and when it doesn't.
Speed Mode vs Network Boost
Speed Mode
- Sends game traffic more reliably
- Uses slightly more data
- Safe to leave on
Network Boost
- Uses WiFi and mobile data at the same time
- Helps when WiFi is unstable
- Uses your mobile data allowance, even on WiFi
If Network Boost says it can't be enabled, mobile data is usually turned off, or your phone blocks using both networks at once. Turn mobile data on and try again. If you're on a small data pack, keep an eye on usage.
Still Failing? When to Wait
If every app works, you've tried both WiFi and mobile data, and MLBB still won't connect, the problem is probably on the server side or with your ISP's route to it. Large patches and new seasons often bring a few hours of instability while everyone downloads updates at once. Waiting an hour often fixes what no setting will. If it keeps happening only on one network at certain times of day, that points to congestion or throttling by your provider. Our guide to reducing ping with a VPN covers that case.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Mobile Legends keep saying "Reconnecting"?
Usually because your phone briefly lost its connection, often from switching between WiFi and mobile data, a weak signal, or battery optimisation throttling the app. Server maintenance can also cause it.
Does Network Boost use mobile data?
Yes. Network Boost uses WiFi and mobile data together, so it uses your mobile data allowance even when you're on WiFi.
Can a VPN fix MLBB network connection failed?
Sometimes. A VPN helps when your provider's route to Moonton's servers is poor or throttled. It won't help with a weak signal, an unstable router or server maintenance.
