Does MLBB Ban VPN? What the Rules Actually Say

By CarrotVPN Team··6 min read

Ask "does MLBB ban VPN?" in any Mobile Legends group and you'll get ten different answers, from "never" to "instant permaban". Both camps are partly right, because the answer depends on what you use the VPN for, not on the VPN itself.

Here's what Mobile Legends' terms of service actually say, what the game can and can't see, and where the real line is.

Short answer: using a VPN on its own isn't against Mobile Legends' rules, and we couldn't find a confirmed case of an account banned just for connecting through one. What the terms do ban is using cheats, bots, hacks, bugs or design flaws for an unfair advantage. So a VPN for a better route or for privacy is fine. A VPN for bot lobbies, fake locations or dodging a ban is what puts your account at risk.

What MLBB's Rules Actually Say

Mobile Legends' terms of service don't mention VPNs by name. They do say players must not use or try to exploit "cheats, bots, hacks, bugs, errors, or design flaws" to gain an unfair advantage or to harm the service. That's the rule that matters.

Read it that way and the logic is simple. Moonton doesn't care which network your phone uses. It cares whether you're getting an advantage other players don't have, or getting around a restriction on purpose.

Can MLBB Detect a VPN?

Assume yes. Every online game can see the IP address your connection comes from, and VPN servers sit in data centres whose addresses are easy to recognise. Players regularly report that the game nudges them about network problems or a VPN when their ping is bad.

But detecting a VPN and banning for it are two different things. In the threads and support posts we went through, the bans people describe involve modded apps, cheat tools, account selling or ban evasion. In each case a VPN happened to be running, but it wasn't the reason for the ban.

VPN Uses That Are Fine

  • Getting a better route to your usual server, when your internet provider routes MLBB traffic badly at peak hours.
  • Protecting your connection on public WiFi, at a café, campus or hotel.
  • Leaving a VPN on for privacy on a server near you, so the game behaves exactly as it normally would.
  • Playing while abroad, using a server close to your home region.

For server choice and ping, see our MLBB VPN guide.

VPN Uses That Can Get You in Trouble

  • Hunting for "bot lobbies" by hopping to quiet regions. It's matchmaking manipulation, and it usually wrecks your ping too. We explain the myth in our bot enemy section.
  • Getting around region rules for events, store prices or rewards that aren't meant for your region.
  • Ban evasion: making a new account through a VPN after one was banned.
  • Any VPN combined with a modded APK or a "game booster" that changes the game. The mod gets you banned, and the VPN won't hide it.

VPN vs. Location for Hero Titles

A lot of people use a VPN thinking it will move them to an easier leaderboard for local hero titles. It doesn't. The location used for leaderboards comes from your device location setting in the game, not your IP address, and you can change it only about once a week. Fake GPS apps are a different story. Spoofing your location to grab a title somewhere you aren't is exactly the kind of manipulation anti-cheat looks for, and it's far riskier than a VPN.

How to Use a VPN Safely in MLBB

  1. Pick one server near you and stick to it. For most of South and Southeast Asia, that's Singapore.
  2. Connect before you open the game, never mid-match. A drop in the middle of a teamfight is worse than high ping.
  3. Compare your ping honestly. Play one Classic match with the VPN off and one with it on. If it's worse with the VPN, turn it off for MLBB. Our MLBB lag fix guide covers what to try instead.
  4. Avoid "MLBB VPN" APKs from download sites that promise skins, bot servers or "no ban" tricks. They're the real risk to your account and your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does MLBB ban VPN users?

Not for simply using a VPN. Mobile Legends’ terms ban cheats, bots, hacks and exploiting bugs or design flaws for an unfair advantage. Using a VPN for matchmaking manipulation, region exploits or ban evasion is what puts an account at risk.

Can MLBB detect a VPN?

Probably. Any online game can see that your IP address belongs to a VPN data centre. Detection alone is not a ban reason. Bans players report involve mods, cheats or ban evasion.

Is it safe to use a VPN for MLBB ranked?

Yes, if you use a server near your usual region, connect before opening the game and keep it only when it gives you equal or better ping. Avoid switching servers between matches.

Will a VPN change my MLBB location for hero titles?

No. Leaderboard location comes from the in-game location setting on your device, not your IP address. Using fake GPS apps to change it is much riskier than using a VPN.
